EQSi, and electrical contracting company, started a new division called Lemco services. The branding needed to be distinct from the main branch of the business, and somewhat playful to represent the one-man show the divison started as. He requested the colour “green” and a “palm tree.”

Process
For the logo I chose a simple, sans-serif font and modified it to add more roundness and cohesion. I extended the “L” to give it a forward direction, and added the palm tree in the “o” to end on a playful note, in contrast to the serious nature of mechanical work. The sharp gradient colours of the green were used to support the simple theme as the owner emphasized how mechanical work was simple and straightforward.

Challenges
This was the first time I used an existing font and modified it to create a logo, so I had to learn more about the artistry behind decisions when to use conventional choices and when you break the rules.
The business cards were a unique challenge - because the logo was simple, the design of the cards could be more artistic and expressive without losing the focus of blue-collar work. I wanted to create cards that would stand out and showcase the brand of an individual, so I got to know the owner and his personality.
I also created a step-by-step product distribution diagram for a fuel system - “From Tank To Truck”. This was an exiting challenge to explore the process of something to concrete and critical to certain operations. Everything had to be precise and represent real-world fuel flow and operations, but presented in an easy way. The biggest challenge was learning the process and ensuring accuracy many times with the owner.
